The Budapest-based Dope Calypso is like as if you took a garage-punk band who are really into the Pixies. You could already feel this on their first album, though it is more pronounced on their second, with tracks under three minutes that could work as pop songs telling rather absurd stories full of comics, sacred referrals and other obscure hints to current popular culture. The band has released four full-length albums so far, one every year, proving how fruitful it is not to take oneself too seriously.
